What changes the price

  • Your pet's weight. Most crematoriums price in weight bands, so a cat costs less than a large dog.
  • Private or communal. Private cremation costs more because your pet is cremated alone and the ashes are returned. See the difference.
  • Pickup distance. In-city pickup is a small flat fee. Farms and acreages farther out are priced by distance.
  • Urns and keepsakes. A simple urn is usually included. Upgraded urns, clay paw prints, fur clippings and memorial jewellery are extra.
  • After-hours pickup. Evenings and weekends may cost a little more.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Choose communal cremation if keeping the ashes isn't important to you.
  • Bring your pet to the crematorium yourself instead of booking pickup.
  • Ask for the price directly instead of going through a clinic, which may add a handling fee.

Questions about price

What is the cheapest pet cremation option?

Communal cremation is the lowest-cost option, usually $50 to $150. Your pet is cremated with other animals and the ashes are not returned. Dropping your pet off yourself, instead of booking pickup, also saves the pickup fee.

Why does a bigger dog cost more?

Larger animals take longer to cremate and use more fuel, so most crematoriums price by weight bands.

Is the urn included?

A simple urn or keepsake box is usually included with private cremation. Wooden, ceramic or engraved urns, paw prints and fur clippings cost extra.

Is cremation cheaper through my vet?

Not always. Clinics often add a handling fee on top of the crematorium's price. It's worth calling to compare.

What if I can't afford cremation right now?

Tell us when you call. Communal cremation is the most affordable choice, and some humane societies offer low-cost options. Burial on your own property may be allowed for small pets; check your municipality's bylaws first.
